Entropia Universe – Shop Talk – Shop Keepers – It takes PED to make PED!

One of the questions I get from newer players in Entropia Universe is how player shops actually work — and whether they’re worth the investment compared to simply using the auction.

Shops and shopkeepers can be a powerful way to sell items, but they work a little differently than the auction system. There are also some advantages that many players don’t realize until they’ve used them for a while.

In this guide, I’m going to walk through:

  • how player shops work
  • how shopkeepers work
  • how you get paid when items sell
  • and why I personally prefer shops for many items

Why Some Players Buy Shops

The biggest thing to understand right away is that shops are not cheap.

Many shops start around 20,000 PED (about $2,000 USD) and can go much higher depending on location.

Like real estate, it’s often about location, location, location.

For example, one of my shops is located on Planet Arcadia at Celeste Harbor, and it sits on a corner location with good visibility. I even worked with the Arcadian design team to customize the appearance of the shop when I bought it.

That kind of location can make a big difference in how often players visit your store.

The good news is that once you own a shop, you can often make your investment back over time through sales.

Shops vs the Auction

One of the biggest advantages of running a shop instead of using the auction is fees.

When you list an item on the auction in Entropia Universe, you pay a fee every time you list it.

Shops work differently.

You can place items in your shop and leave them there indefinitely. The only time a fee applies is when the item actually sells.

This means you can:

  • list items
  • set your price
  • walk away

If something doesn’t sell, you can simply adjust the price later or remove the item.

This flexibility is one of the reasons I like shops so much.

Using Shopkeepers Instead of Owning a Shop

If you don’t own a shop, there’s another option: shopkeepers.

Shopkeepers are NPC-style vendors that you can place inside property you own, such as an apartment.

This lets you sell items without owning a full shop.

However, there are some limitations:

  • Shopkeepers can hold up to 20 items
  • You must own the land or apartment where they are placed
  • They can be expensive or hard to find

Shopkeepers used to cost around 25,000 PED, which was a lot. These days they’re often closer to 5,000 PED, though availability can vary because they are typically looted items.

Still, if you already own one, it can be a great way to start selling items.

How to List Items for Sale

Selling through a shopkeeper is actually very simple.

You just:

  1. Drag the item into the shopkeeper inventory
  2. Click Set Retail Price
  3. Choose your price

That’s it.

One important limitation is that the minimum markup is 1 PED. You can’t set a price lower than that.

This can sometimes be a problem with items that have very small markup, like certain oils or materials.

For example, if you’re selling a stack of animal eye oil worth 50 PED with only 102% markup, you might not be able to price it competitively because of the minimum price rule.

Understanding Market Markup

When pricing items, many players rely on the market value shown in the information window.

However, it’s important to understand that this data is based on auction history, including filled buy orders.

That means the displayed markup may not always reflect the current market.

Large orders or unusual trades can sometimes skew the numbers.

Because of that, I often check the auction manually before setting prices in my shop.

Selling Items Directly in Your Shop

If you own a full shop, you have more flexibility than shopkeepers.

You can actually place items directly in the shop environment and set prices on them.

For example, you can:

  • place decorations
  • display large items
  • or even sell furniture and objects placed in the shop itself

Anything you place can potentially be sold if you set a retail price on it.

Just make sure to check the auction value first so you don’t accidentally sell something too cheaply.

How You Get Paid When Items Sell

When someone buys something from your shop, you receive a notification.

The message will show:

  • what item sold
  • how much you received
  • which shop it sold from
  • and who bought it

The PED is automatically deposited onto your PED card.

This is helpful if you own multiple shops, because you can see exactly where your sales are happening.

Sometimes I’ll even message a buyer to thank them or let them know if I restock a particular item.

Tracking Your Shop Income

You can also view your sales history through the PED Flow Center.

This section shows all the PED entering your account from various sources, including shop sales.

For example, over one recent month I earned 824 PED in shop sales simply from items sitting in my store.

Most of these were items I had looted during hunting and would have otherwise left sitting in storage.

Instead, they sold gradually while I was busy doing other things.

That’s another big advantage of shops — they allow you to sell items passively without constant management.

Why I Like Shops More Than the Auction

I still use the auction sometimes, especially for items that sell very quickly.

However, for many items I prefer shops because they allow me to:

  • list items once and leave them there
  • avoid repeated auction fees
  • sell items while I’m offline
  • manage inventory more casually

For players who enjoy the trading side of Entropia Universe, shops can be a very satisfying system.

Final Thoughts

Owning a shop in Entropia Universe is definitely an investment, but it can also be a great long-term way to sell items and generate PED.

Even if you don’t own a full shop, shopkeepers provide another way to participate in the player economy.

For me, the biggest benefit is the flexibility. I can list items, walk away, and come back later to see what sold.

If you enjoy trading or selling your loot, it’s definitely a system worth learning.
